Exec: Projects

Projects: Customizable AI for Your Own Law Firm

Projects in Gavel Exec let you train it on your own files and instructions, so your redlines aren’t just accurate, they match your preferred style, risk-assessment, and provision.

Project include two components:

  • Project Files: These are the documents/database that the project will draw from and train on. For example, all deal files, prior versions of a document, notes, legal background or anything else that you want to train it on.
  • Project Instructions: These are the core positions or rules you want the AI to follow.

Once you select a Project, Chat Mode becomes more powerful. Every prompt you enter is informed by both your instructions and the uploaded files. That means you don’t have to remind Gavel Exec of your client’s positions every time you make a request; it’s already operating with that context.

For example, if your Project Instructions say the client won’t accept any uncapped indemnity exposure, and your files include a prior draft with carveouts, Gavel Exec takes that into account when redlining, rewriting, or flagging issues. It avoids generic or one-size-fits-all suggestions and instead offers edits that match the deal’s direction.

Accessing your Projects:

In Chat Mode, you can select a project to change the scope of the chat or Quick Action at the very top of the chat mode as a combobox search tool.

You can create a new Project by selecting "+Create" and following the prompts to add the sources for the project.

Creating A Project:

You will first need to name your project and select "+Create"

From here, you can add PDFs and Docx files to give more context to the Project. You can add specific instructions or rules as guardrails and negotiation terms, and as you continue to use the Project in your chats, it will keep previous chats as future context to grow with you.

When to use Playbooks v. Projects?

Use Playbooks when you want the AI to apply a set checklist of rules (like a junior associate) ensuring consistency and flagging deviations from preferred language. They’re best for issue spotting and enforcing policy across contracts. Over time, you can refine Playbooks to improve accuracy and nuance.

Use Projects when you need the AI to act more like a senior associate, handling complex judgment calls, referencing multiple documents, and performing deeper review, revision, or negotiation with custom instructions and broader context. Projects are your customized AI model for your law firm.
